This is so exactly how I feel. I've notice that (at least on the East coast) Northern people stick with "Happy Holidays" or just don't say anything. Very PC and polite. In the South I hear "Have a blessed Christmas." almost every day.
Waaaayyyy ahead of you there, I don't bother with any Holiday anymore thanks to having them crammed down my throat, X-mas started in Sept here. The family does seem to drag my down to Thanksgiving tho, I really just like my dad's cooking ;D Happy Merry Whatevera!!
I HAVE to say Merry Christmas where I work to EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER. And I don't even celebrate Christmas! I celebrate Yule!!! Christmas is too over rated sometimes. But it's a nice excuse to spend time with family and to pig out.
The only thing I like about this holiday season is that my family (and there's quite a lot of us) get together on the 24th. That makes it one of the best days of the year for me.
Decorations? The MUSIC oh good grief the music? The constant bells and jingles and MERRY CHRISTMAS and on and on and no please no stop all that right now. That's not my holiday cheer. My holiday cheer is avoiding as much of the commercialized holiday madness as I can.
Of course, I live in the deep south, and this makes it a problem. But I try.
