Those kittens we found in a heating duct under our house are about the most adorable things you've ever laid eyes on. They're about three months old now, we got 'em house trained, and they get along with the dogs and our other cat. The only thing I don't like about them is they like to go mountain climbing on the back of my legs when I'm pouring coffee in the morning. Painful.
@shalahoyden Those are very rational fears. Our cats have still not acclimated to one another :( I would say there ARE certain rescue people who will let you foster cats before adoption, that is probably the only way to be sure they won't be total snots to each other.
@Rori: It took several years for my siamese to stop hating and tormenting our dog. Hopefully they'll come around!
I told my friends to never tell me about kittens they find ever again. Last time I took a couple tiny kittens someone found (by the dumpster), we ended up keeping them. Too cute, glad all the cats get along, I love them, but can't take on any more!
The most recent time hubby & I got cats, we got 2 the same age. Different litters, but their mothers were housemates and birthed like a day apart. And even THEY don't get along all that great. Don't hate each other, but don't much care if the other one's around or not. Vastly different personalities and all.
We had hoped they'd be closer, but alas, 'twas not to be. We'd tried 'getting littermates' since our previous cats were too far apart in age to really get along. One I'd had since I was 11 years old, and she was about 14 years old before we got the other one.
You never know how it will work out! Cats can have such varying personalities.
