02/29/12 - The End of Nog

March 1st, 2012, 12:06 am
I REALLY like egg nog, Really.

Rori, March 1st, 2012, 12:02 am

Apparently, egg nog will keep for like two months, so the last egg nog of the season had an expiration date of the end of February...I bought a lot of it. It was AWESOME.

I really like egg nog in my coffee, okay.

OMG I did this too!
(but I ran out like, two weeks ago, need to buy more nog next time!)
Never thought to try it in coffee, but that sounds awsome. you'll remind me to try it next winter right?

The_Hankerchief, March 1st, 2012, 12:57 am

I've mixed egg nog with a number of things. A weird one to try is egg nog and Sprite; it taste surprisingly good.

By the way, my dad was smart. He froze his pre-spiked egg nog for future use. According to him, it'll last him well into June.

See I feel for ya though I can't stand Egg Nog ><
or (better looking one)

Nami-Viveraldi, March 1st, 2012, 3:13 pm

Once, in the middle of summer, I found egg nog for sale in my local grocery store.

That was a very very good day, and very shocking. XD I've never seen egg nog for sale at that time of year before or since, but I keep hoping...

It's times like these we must use the FOOD NETWORK! Or at least their web site and learn how to make egg nog so you can have it year around. Me I'm picky about my nog. blah. Blah on sub standard nog.

While I don't care for it, my hubby LOVES egg nog. One year, we found this powdered (mix it with milk) nog mix that he loved SO MUCH that we bought enough powder to last for, like, THREE YEARS.

We haven't seen it since. He's wishing we'd bought ten times as much of the stuff.

Make Your Own!
So fluffy and freaktacularly good:

This recipe appeared in The Times in an article by Craig Claiborne.

12 eggs, separated

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup bourbon

1 cup Cognac

½ teaspoon salt

3 pints heavy cream

Grated nutmeg

1 to 2 cups milk (optional)

1. In an electric mixer, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until thick.

2. Slowly add the bourbon and Cognac while beating at slow speed. Chill for several hours.

3. Add the salt to the egg whites. Beat until almost stiff.

4. Whip the cream until stiff.

5. Fold the whipped cream into the yolk mixture, then fold in the beaten egg whites. Chill 1 hour.

6. When ready to serve, sprinkle the top with freshly grated nutmeg. Serve in punch cups with a spoon.

7. If desired, add 1 to 2 cups of milk to the yolk mixture for a thinner eggnog. Makes about 40 punch-cup servings.

Is "egg nog" code for "new Tiny Pink Robots comics"? When will the next update be?

I know I don't know you Rori but I hope you and the husband are okay. We miss you around here.

Stalker Bel (Guest), March 10th, 2012, 7:36 am

For those of you worrying like I was, I used my stalking powers and found this on twitter. :P

Hey guys, Tiny Pink Robots is going to be on hiatus for a wink and a nod, I'm sorry :(. I'll figure out some filler in the meantime, though."

darkamnios, March 10th, 2012, 8:58 am

Thank you for Stalkers!!
@Stalker Bel Thanks for letting us know! I feel kinda bad cause I do have Rori on twitter but I never check that ol' thing.. Thanks again! :D

Shaz, March 12th, 2012, 6:18 am

Oh thank goodness, I've been rather worried. I keep checking here (and on Pictures of You) just to see if there was anything posted. I don't have Rori on Twitter and don't really use it myself (I might remember to check it once a month or so...), so I'm glad someone was able to update the situation here. :)

Easter Nog
Around here they sometimes put Egg Nog out around Easter... Have you checked? I think Dean's is the brand I've seen.
