This is really great advice and yet the hardest to follow. It feels like you're bothering everyone around you. There's always someone making themselves insufferable because they don't know how to stop promoting and just be themselves, and no one wants to be that person. But still, there's a medium in there somewhere, and I suppose we all have to find where that is for ourselves.
My wife and I go round and round about this. She doesn't like to share my work posts, because she doesn't want to bother anyone. Since we share so many friends, it could potentially end up in their feeds 3 or more times already.
Non shame-based marketing
I hear ya! When I met you in person at SPX in the Fall, I was giving away and trading my comic. This year I'll be tabling at SPX and I am already having pricing anxiety. Sell my comic?! Whu? And commissions? Don't think I'm ready for that. Loving the strip, by the way, and especially loved the SPX strips!
I've never sold anything I made...given things away, but not sold. I HAVE been published in periodicals, but I never really tried to make a career of it. I'd undoubtedly be horrible at promoting my work!
